Some Notes On Caring for Ultra-Soft Cotton Flannel

This Gingko Flannel is made from a buttery soft 100% cotton flannel fabric using naturally-made coconut shell buttons. My partner likes to say that “it feels like I’m getting a hug all day long” - it’s that soft! In order to maintain this softness (as well as the natural acorn dye), it’s essential to follow the care instructions.

CARE INSTRUCTIONS

Hand wash cold with a delicate detergent.

Spot treat stains.

DO NOT add white vinegar as a fabric softener

Lay flat or hang to dry

Iron on steam setting (the high heat doesn’t not damage the flannel at this stage).

MORE INFORMATION

The enemy of flannel is mainly friction, which will cause something called ‘piling’, where small little peices of cotton ball up on the surface of the fabric. Now, this wont change the integrity of the garment, but (in my opinion) it doesn’t look awesome. The fabric is also known for warping under excessive heat, meaning the size of the garment could be permanently altered if you accidentally wash on high heat.

What I do to wash my families flannels is to fill a bin with cold water and a small amount of woolite and I gently pull the garment through the water until the water becomes dirty. Then I’ll repeating that process with just water until the water runs clear.

If you’re a returning customer, you’ve probably seen I recommend adding white vinegar to the first few washes of a naturally-dyed garment, but white vinegar can damage flannel!
